The purpose of the questionnaire is to explore the relative importance of different attributes relating to drug preference.
The PhD as a whole aims to understand the diffusion of new psychoactive substances (NPS) in the United Kingdom. This research will investigate why different NPS diffuse and others fail to do so, in order to identify appropriate public health interventions to reduce harm. This questionnaire will form a part of the PhD study.
Gaining an understanding of the factors that determine the diffusion of NPS and differentiating between them will provide an insight into emerging drug use markets and behaviours, and provide evidence that may be useful in formulating appropriate policy, preventative, and harm reduction responses.
This questionnaire forms the final part of the PhD. The previous three stages have involved a critical analysis of the diffusion of innovations model and two interview stages. The questions for the interviews with NPS retailers and policymakers were informed by the critical analysis of the model. Additionally the attributes for the choice based conjoint analysis have been created from both the critical analysis and the interviews. The interviews conducted determined what mediating and moderating factors are important for diffusion of NPS from the perspective of NPS retailers and policymakers. This questionnaire will help determine what factors are important for the diffusion of NPS from the perspective of drug users.
